It is said that a man doesn't truly know his worth until he touched the lives of people and they too have lived with his grace. I say Cousin, Brother, Nephew because I was all those too Earl and he was all those to me. He always wanted me to read a book as if he wanted me to grow up being book smart in some way. Well he got his wish and I will read Will by Will Smith in his honour and that will be my last book for a while. Rest In Peace EOC.

Earl was my father’s favourite nephew. Dad, (Horace “Hollis” Carter) thought of Earl as a son, and was immensely proud of him and of his achievements. When dad was troubled, he would often say “I must drop Earl a line,” even though in later years dad would be telephoning him, not writing Earl a letter. I was often jealous of their close bond when I was younger, but grew to appreciate Earl’s level-headedness, clarity of vision and warm personality. As an adult, I learned exactly what it was my father saw and appreciated in his nephew.

Earl Carter, although you will be sorely missed by myself and my wife the thought of you being reunited with my father brings me great joy during these saddest of times.

You will be loved, remembered and missed by us until the day all of us are together again.
