I met Dennis one early evening in February 2006 when I was hurriedly driving along a snow filled country road. Dennis was walking home on the road in the opposite direction coming back from walking his dog. I had not seen him nor his dog - as it was dark and both he and his dog were in black - and had to swerve to avoid them. He, in his Scottish brogue, made it clear to me as to how I should be driving in the future. That started many future enjoyable conversations as I was building my house on that road and he would happen to walk by with his dog.

We subsequently happened to meet at a local YMCA where we would steam and chat. We spoke often of our humble roots, and social justice, and the plight of the lost and downtrodden souls in the world and - with the most joy - of our families.

He was a deeply intellectual, and critical thinker - which I admired greatly - but most of all I admired his kindness and compassion.

He seemed to me to be this intensely shining, brave, and hardy soul who was always tempered with a uniquely uncommon kindness and civility.

I am privileged to have known him in some small way; this man who left the world a better place in whatever he touched.

Godspeed Good Sir; you will be forever missed.
